maybe she is, but how much money has she been offered is what's important.  if she's offered a price for the house that won't allow her to get another one in a reasonably close area, then she's not being greedy at all.

When things like that happen, there will be less and less developers willing to develop the old, but rundown areas in the future.  This is the same as many older cities in North America.  We have this massive ghetto in or near the downtown, but more and more people moved out to the new urban center.  It’s just too costly to develop the older area.   In the long term, this is worrisome.

It sounds as if the compensation offered - 12,000 RMB per square metre I believe - was substantially higher than the costs of properties in most new-build developments.  She was asking for some extraordinary amount like 150,000 per sqm, if the reports are to be believed, which would give her enough money to buy a small flat in London!
