Greed is not Good

No offense, but way too much evil exists in the hearts of men - to quote the Shadow.  No offense, we will have to be our own heroes if we want to see this evil combatted.

Fact is, the ones commiting these crimes do not read this forum. They are enjoying their Ferrari F40 and penthouse.

If they stop slapping the perpetrators on this wrist in the west, that might help.

I don't think they do slap people traffickers on the wrist. Serious crimes are normally punished seriously, though it depends where you look.

Besides, people traffickers have to start the trafficking somewhere else. Maybe if the countries of origin dealt with trafficking better we wouldn't have the problem we do, rather than blaming the destination country.

We often see inadequate sentences and repeat offenders.

Well there are repeat offenders in every country in the world. Simply punishing people doesn't stop them being criminals - rehabilitation is important, yet often neglected.

Something doesn’t work in the western penal system.

Maybe you could be more specific? One could argue there is always something that never works in any penal system.

it should be done quickly unlike the joke we see in America

Excecutions take so long in the US because you need a foolproof appeals system. There aren't psychics to detect who is guilty and not. If you have a miscarriage of justice, as can't be avoided anywhere, with the death penalty you can't make up for it later. Having the death penalty is a responsibility to ensure it is used properly, not just an easy way to get rid of criminals.

You might say the US system is a joke, but I would say the Chinese justice system is a farce where far too many people are punished for crimes they never committed, or indeed should never have been prosecuted for because they didn't break the law.

Maybe you could be more specific about what "doesn't work" in America/Europe? One could argue there is always something that never works in any penal system.
