The Japanese Emperor: War Responsibility

Hirohito's imput was vital to the war effort. Time and again he urged his war cabinet forward.

The story of his not being active in the planning was put out by McArthur effort to have the royal house remain in tack.  It was easier for the Americans to subdue Japan, if they did not accuse Hirohito of war crimes.
He came out of the occupation 'clean', sacrificing Tojo and others to McArthur's.

He was directly involved in many of the most brutal aspects of the war in China. Nothing was possible without his consent.  The myth of his non-involvement has succeed. Especially among Japanese school children.

That is too bad. One can see their denial in this generation of Japanese War Crimes against Asians and U.S. troops who gave thjeir lives, only to see the Emperor deified.

Actually Hirohito was a figurehead. He was pushed around by his generals. Although he was very nervous about going to war with China he had no choice but to listen to them.

If he could broadcast over tokyo radio to surrender to the US forces in '45, why couldn't he have broadcasted over tokyo radio to stop the invasion of China and the other countries in the preceding years when his military ccountrymen were raping, bombing, killing and murdering innocents all over Asia?

One shrill voice and all of japan would have bowed.

Could anyone have stopped the imperial voice?

Why didn't he?

Why didn't he stop his uncle, one of the generals responsible for the Nanjing Massacre, who after the war, played golf until dying from old age in the imperial grounds of the tokyo palace?

Why didn't he?

Maybe that's why he died from intestinal bleeding - all that guilt just burst inside.

A small hypocritical coward of a man, appearing to be a scientist, gloating over his military achievements in the early years of the war, and now they say he wanted to stop the war?

Why didn't he?  Couldn't? Why didn't he walk to the public square and unsheath his gleaming sword on himself - and send the ultimate message to his people?

Why didn't he?
