Mandarin
Actually, there are two hotel chains in the world both using the "Mandarin Hotel" brandname.
The original one, and the more famous one, is the Mandarin Hotel in Central District, Hong Kong, repeatedly voted best business hotel in the world by business travellers for many years.
For some reasons, however, the same name "Mandarin Hotel" has been adopted by another hotel chain by the name of the Meritus Group, which is based in Singapore. This group is operating the Mandarin Hotel in Haikou City, Hainan Island, and JC Mandarin in Shanghai, amongst a few others. As one can imagine, the quality of services is not quite the same as the original one.
In the meantime, the original Mandarin Hotel from Hong Kong has chosen to distinguish itself from the Singaporean group by changing its name slightly to become "Mandarin Oriental" "文华东方"。Because of its reputation, it has continued to build its name in the hospitality industry. Mandarin Oriental is present in most big cities in the world, including London, New York, Tokyo..........
The "Mandarin" being mentioned in the news article is actually the “Mandarin Oriental”.
Jeff is correct in saying that there is no Mandarin Hotel in the Seychelles. The "Mandarin" being mentioned is actually the Seychelles Banyan Tree. "Banyan Tree" is another brand name operated by the Mandarin Oriental group. Whilst Mandarin Oriental Hotels cater mainly for discerning business travellers, the Banyan Tree brandname is closely linked with luxurious resorts and pampering spa.......
