anti satellite?

US is going to shoot it down very easily at any given time.

why does china develop such weapon to destroy the technology which plays a very important role in our daily life?

GPS saves many lives, time and money on civilian use.

yes, it belongs to the US navy, but it allows anybody to use them.

nobody owns the space, they can play star wars there... i'd say, shoot 'em down.

No nation, no non-state actor, should be under the illusion that the United States will tolerate a denial of our right to the use of space for peaceful purposes," Joseph said on December 13.

The United States has been researching satellite-killers of its own, experimenting with lasers on the ground that could disable, disrupt and destroy spacecraft.

They [Americans] think that they own space?

Their powers over other nations are starting to diminish.

I think that the Rusiians can do it. We need India to be able to  do it next.

Then we will get some respect from the Americans.

The strong only have respect for the strong!

BTW All the cruise missiles and others that has so-called pinpoint accuracy will not be able to function from hundreds of miles away. American air superiority (as seen in Iraq) -- will it be the same?

China learns from Iran

The Iranians and Hugo Chavez have discovered that America can do nothing while it is bogged down in Iraq.  Even the DPRK tested a nuke without consequences.  Now the Iranians are building nukes and America will do nothing.  So why not test an anti-satellite weapon?  The citizens of China love it and America can do nothing but complain about it.

All technology that helps us make progress comes either from military research, space research, or medical research.  We even have a program on cable in America called "Tactical to Practical" that describes all the many inventions in our lives that began as military weapons technology.  War industry makes our lives better, and protects the soldiers on the battlefield, regardless of what country is doing the research.

Hear hear! Even the Internet started as military research.

So, China need to pursue these military activities to make the life of the Chinese better. I can't wait to see what the next five years will bring. I hope more artificial intelligence and robotics research for the military!

I smell jealousy from the Americans. We did something they didn't expect.

It is actually an orderly retreat.

The USA has a right-wing rabble that used to constantly agitate against the Soviets.  When the USSR collapsed, they formed against Saddam Hussein in the 1991 Gulf War.  Then they difted without voice for several years and then re-focused upon Bill Clinton.  They finally achieved their pinnacle of strength in the USA just after the 9/11 terror attacks.  Their next stop was Iraq, where they toppled the government.  Now they're beginning to focus on China because they are failing in Iraq.  The American right-wing currently thinks that there is a global counter-offensive against the USA that is comprised of Russia, Iran, Venezuala, China, and North Korea.  They used to say it was a European phalanx comprised of France, Germany, and Russia, who are the traditional enemies of England.  The enemies of America just keep rotating around in their world, and they are ready at moment's notice to support a military invasion anywhere that the Pentagon wants to try.

I was skeptical of this viewpoint for some years because it emerged as the "vast right-wing conspiracy" that Hillary Clinton identified in the early days of the Lewinsky scandal in Winter 1998.  But today, I think her analysis has stood the test of time.   The right wing rabble won the congress in 1994, and they impeached Bill Clinton in 1998.  In 2000, under the leadership of DIck Cheney, they won the White House.  Throughout the Winter and Spring of 2001, the right-wing rabble cloaked their desire for a terror attack to occur in the USA by citing an inability to act due to laws passed by liberal Democrats.  When the terror attack they longed for occured in September 2001, they achived their pinnacle of strength as America experienced the triumph of fear over hope.

Now Iraq is becoming a burden and they need someplace to put the focus while they retreat.

It's time for China demostrate forces

It's meaning after China veto a proposal to Burma in UN. Burma is a kind of China's territory. China did this anti-satellite technology to show its decision. And, the best thing for China is we can shoot down GPS if something will happen across taiwan strait.     Wow!
