English prononciation can be inconsistent. An oft quoted example (often attributed to George Bernard Shaw) is the following:::::
Ghoti can be pronounced as Fish
If you pronounce the Gh: as F (as in rough)
the o as i (as in women)
the ti as sh (as in nation)
you can pronounce ghoti (a word that doesn't actually exist) as Fish!!
But then lots of foreigners think that 汉字 are really difficult, especially because so many are so similar to each other - at least at first signt! And ofcourse most Chinese say that english words are too long, while hanzi are so compact. Lots of websites in China seem to have numbers in them --- for example @126.com or @163.com, i guess because numbers are easier to remember than longer words in the roman alphabet. Is that the reason?
Anyway, best of luck with learning whatever language you wish to learn!
