In The West

In the West, the quickest way for the employee to move up would be to sleep with the boss.

Better yet, sleep with the boss and then sue the boss and the company for millions  for sexual harassment.   Quick settlement, early retirement.

China does not have the lawyers hungry enough to take those cases.

Proving yourself through your work is the best bet. If you're good at your job, the boss will like you, and you will be able to stay on as your English skills develop.

In the meantime, don't us ...

Agree with sockmonkey.

American bosses are demanding and unreasonable.

The excuse they often give for criticising others - they are from the "advanced" country and you are just a "developing" nation.

I have heard those craps from American bosses, many times.

One more thing, when it comes to axeing staff or retrenchment because the company is making losses (due to their poor financial management), the American bosses are merciless.  They are quite well-known for that as compared to British or French companies.

If I were your boss (foreign boss), I would like you, or all of the other people, to be active and to be very good at what you are assigned to do. Both are very important. I don't like those people who are very silent and quiet, and only knows how to do work, nothing else they can do. And also I don't like those people who are  very active and talkative in the company but don't know how to do work. The worst is that they can not do both.

By the way, don't let your boss and your colleagues think that you are the person who is bootlicking.

What Tongluren said has a point and it is a practical account or practical accounts.

You haven't worked and so you won't know.

Dont' give excuses and think all bosses are great and your women climbed the ladder through their own hard work and ingenuity, perhaps or unless in the respect we are (or Tong is) talking about.

Cheer up!

Hehehe ... also about time to ask for a pay rise.  The active ones will.

But I guess that will be next chapter? :)

Um, actually, I have worked before, whampoa. You should know, being a Westerner yourself and all, that many students have job experience before they leave college. My family is hardly one of those obnoxiously wealthy families, so I've had various jobs ever since I was 16.
