I don't think figures means something in evaluating citizent's living standard.  The most important thing I think, we will be enjoying more happy and wealthy lives in the near future, the figures is just for our reference.

we may not need US$30,000 per-capita income,

Or perhaps we could never arrive at that high, but we definitely need more than the present meagre US$2,300, right?  And,  the cost of living, esp housing and the fare of gas, electricity and drink water, as well as the food, is rising too in China.

But I agree China's GDP is under-estimated or under-calculated, not just for the value of the currency, the yuan, but the PPP thing.

ha ha ha Mr. Chinadaily....you are just stating the obvious.

How can 2,000 M tonnes of coal be sold at Rmb9 per tonne ex-works when international market price of coal is US$60 per tonne FOB! ha ha ha

China's real economic output has been US$8 - 9 trillion now! (if there is price equalization).....if China increases value of Rmb...it would be possible. But it would mean Chinese citizen will be able to IMPORT more luxuries etc. from the rest of the world and this will have impact on the TRADE BALANCE.

Step by Step is safer. China is very large and many people's lifes is at stake, we cannot be reckless.

But i reckon, China should have a per capita real GNP of at least US$15,000 by 2030! How it could increase that income beyond will then be a great test of Chinese capability!
