It's a transitive verb as well as an intransitive one. Had I put it the other way, there might be a shade of difference in meaning. 'To be materialized' emphasizes the necessity of winning the victory through efforts on the part of the action taker. Do you agree?

或者把vitory 改成 odds(胜算)

As far as I know, materialize can only be used intransitively.
From OALD 7th ed. - FYR:
materialize 1 (usually used in negative sentences) to take place or start to exist as expected or planned: The promotion he had been promised failed to materialize. 2 to appear suddenly and/or in a way tha cannot be explained: A tall figure suddenly materialized at her side. * (informal) The train failed to materialize (= it did not come). ...

I have a dictionary saying otherwise. And examples of transitive usage are not rare in everyday languague. For instance, to materialize one's plan,idea, goal, etc.
However, I'll consider your point of view. The sentence does sound better when used intransitively.
