Sour Grapes

Fish is just totally sour grapes about the whole thing.  Americans have totally lost their way with doing any project on time and/or under budget.  A typical 16 or 17 year project in the U.S. usually comes in at 10 time (yes, 1,000%) the original estimate.  It is a shock to him that the Chinese can actually do this on time (16 years instead of the 17 projected), and 8% under budget.

Actually if the project is executed by any American engineering firm or firms - and I mean ANY of them or a combination of any of them, the cost would have been 10 times as much, and it would take 30 years to finish.

It's hard to say.

It is pretty hard to tell whether the Three Gorges Dam worth it or not in nowadays for it is a project started about a decade ago.

At that period, the anticipative power production ability of the project is was really inconceivability for most of the people.

Well I don't think you can blame Mao - it was Li Peng that pushed for starting construction. And it isn't all bad - certainly it will generate clean electricity and allow more traffic further up the river. I suppose the proof of the pudding will be in the eating - and it'll take years before the project can be fully judged.

Though I do wonder if the current administration would really start more projects like this.

For Mr. Fish everything goes back to Mao. In fact, according to Mr. Fish, Mao is still in charge.
