One of the biggest issues I have with Confucianism is that it is explicitly anti-female.

Something else that some people in a certain government don't seem to realize is that even in Confucian influenced areas (like Singapore, Japan, and South Korea), Confucianism is dead and buried. It died for a good reason. The Chinese government wants to bring it back to give themselves some legitimacy.

But today, people have a choice between several foreign religions, and also they have a lot of influence from the internet and western media. Confucianism cannot compete with MTV.

Rather than bring back Confucianism into some Franken-religion, let it stay dead. It died because it could not compete with modern ideals (which shows its incompatibility with the modern world).

Confucianism is not dead. Mao tried his best to kill it, but in vain. Today's leaders don't have a problem with it. It is part of Chinese culture, whether you like it or not.

That much of the wisdoms are outdated means nothing. The same is true for other systems around the world, like Christianity. Pick the stuff that still makes sense and apply it to modern conditions.

Confucianism has also changed many times. The original teachings of Kongzi were taken hostage and were modified by the empire, to fit the needs of the empire. Then, as Confucianism declined after Han, Buddhism took over. Zhuxi and others tried to reestablish Confucianism by changing it, discarding a few classics, adding a few, and also adding some metaphysical stuff to compete with Buddhism and Daoism.

The original Confucianism did not have a trace of the sexual taboo that was feaured in Zhuxis version. In fact, neither Kongzi nor Mengzi had any moralistic views on sex. They regarded it as natural.

So, if Confucianism has been adapted before, it can be adapted again.

Certainly. They wouldn't understand the Victorian moralism of MTV.

But that still does not change the fact that Confucianism, as it exists today, is anti-female.
