I keep an eye on this thread all the time. Thanks for your insight remarks, dear Markwu!
"Behind this topic on Mianzi, there is a  long road to humanity", wisely said.
Mianzi is a part of Chinese cultures and it seems hard for outsiders to understand it.

Gu Hongming once said:
In order to understand the real Chinaman and the Chinese civilization, a man must be deep, broad and simple, for the three charatteristics of the Chinese character and the Chinese civilisation are: depth, broadness and simplicity.

Cheer up, dear Markwu!

Everything will be OK and better not worry about those which might not happen at all.

The world is becoming smaller and smaller but the invisible distance among human's minds are farther and farther. Nobody can help with it other than the real people involved.

Enjoy yourself.

well, Ipoh is no longer super rich but middle class.....because just "alluvial tin" is not enough....

but you have many of those rich people now in Hong Kong....
and they have invested in real estate, banks.....

back in Ipoh, we now have a small screen TV factory, PCB board, medical product industrial park, ...including the Vit. E extraction facilities.....
a small city "stunted" at 600,000 population due to location....

I think i just had a look in the map....and saw that Anhui, Hunan, Hubei, Guangxi is in high lands.......
seems likely, the local authorities in these regions could spend some time visiting Bavaria, Austria, Switzerland....region which are also similarly contraint...

their solution...
(1) Precision metal working
(2) Mechanical watch making
(3) Medical ingredients manufacturing
(4) Personal banking
(5) Light arms manufacturing
(6) Tourism....cool, fresh air...mountain holiday..chalets, iceboarding......

yet..those nations have  large populations.....only probably 40-50 million in Bavaria....Austria....and Switzerland....heard of Nestle, Swiss banks, German precision machineries...

and we could have pulp and timber processing plants...

and recreate a great lifestyles.....
not necessarily high incomes..but high quality lifestyles with lower incomes...????

eyeofstorm is right -- the arrogant 'seniors" have hijacked this thread

What bullshit!

The topic is clear.

The arrogance of the "elders"is also clear.

This perfectly clear topic has been hijacked ... to be whatever
the "elders" want to talk about.

The breadth of "your wisdom" ought to include
being able to honor the person who started the topic
and speak to the issue.

"Face"?

Markwu pretends to believe in collective face and not
an arrogant ego.

Bullshit!

Speak wisely all you want.... on the breath of humanity ...
... but don't pretend you are honoring the community
by disregarding the question that has been raised.

Do not pretend that "the breadth of your knowledge"
justifies the arrogant disregard for the question that
was asked ... and drew you to this thread.

Don't give me this bullshit about "the whole scope of humanity"
and "everything related to everything" ... to justify hijacking this thread!

Bullshit.

:) Are we clear? The pretenders to wisdom must behave as if they are wise.
Period.

Yes, it's Saturday night in the U.S. ... and I am drunk.
Wine leads to truth ... or so it seems.

"In order to understand the real Chinaman and the Chinese civilization, a man must be deep, broad and simple, for the three charatteristics of the Chinese character and the Chinese civilisation are: depth, broadness and simplicity".

How can we lead a life of simplicity with a broadness horizon of understanding and 'frog-out-of-well' degree of depth in perception? That seems rather compilcated to me with a perpetual means of unrealistic hypocrisy. With my observation, it seems many seniors on this discussion forum tends to speak like 'sages'.  I believe the neo-English language is purely based on a profound simplistic approach toward all problems. AKA (Also Known As) Get to the point.  Furthermore, I wish you seniors would lower a couple of notches on your 'tone' and think about the audience your trying to convey your 'wisdom' towards. We the younger 'proteges' do not have wisdom...yet...that comes with time..and for now we possess something called 'knowledge'.

Not trying to be stubborn or anything but those of you that can contribute to this thread. I beg of you to start talking like 'stand-up comedians or bumpkins' instead of 'politicians or sages'. If you wish to get your message across to all walks of life then I suggest creating posts EVERYONE is capable of understanding.
