FYI -- legal vs legit

As for 合法的 in this sentence, which is the right word, legal or legitimate? What's the difference?

usually the word legal is used as adv for legally employed and legitimate is for adj as in legit employment.
BUT a legit employment does not necessarily make the person legally employed.  That is the job is legit, but he person may not have the right visa to work so he is illeally employed for a legit position. An illegit employment is some professions that is illegal such as gambler, selling heroine, practising medicine without a license, etc.  Illegally employed in USA are the aliens who have illgally entered the country and they do not have a working permit or visa, such as H-1, or L-1 or F-1 with working permit.  The jobs that are in short supply will be granted a working visa. Else it won't,  to protect the country's employment. (There are  a list of jobs where foreign labor can be brought in.)

You may also wish to consider using the word "lawful" (as in "lawful employment").
