Writer's real name is Lau Guan Kim.  lau_guan_kim is for commentary and analysis. He writes also under another alter ego jinseng. I will respond to good reasoned debate. Mudslingers shall be ignored. What I do not like are ignorance, stupidity, chauvinism and bigotry. The other party has as much right as I have until it resorts to insults and nuisance.

Do Taidu In Now

What would be the proper response to Taidu Bian?

Taking Kinmen and Matzu overnite would be a good one. Look, if the crack forces can't even take a couple of barren rocks only a few miles off the coast, it is indeed true that they have no business talking about crossing the Taiwan Strait.

What could be even sweeter? Short the Taiwan markets to the hilt, and take islands over a weekend after the markets are closed. The profits would pay for the campaign.

Limited use of force to show it can be done and how it can be done - that would be the formula for avoiding larger scale bloodshed. In a year Taiwan would be turned into a demilitarized zone, and part of China (likely in the Hong Kong model), all done before 2008. And China would continue with another 50 years of rapid economic growth.

2006 is as good a time as any. It is a foregone conclusion that some military action will be necessary. Doing it early is much better than doing it late, especially with the Japanese itching to plunge it and reassert its military hegemony in Asia. The Taiwan issue should be over and done with before the Japanese rearming goes into high gear.  Waiting until after the Olympics would be a mistake.

The powers that be should duly "thank" Taidu Bian for the "gift" of providing the clear vision for unification.

Copy-and-paste

Tong, you did that in your other post so I'll copy mine here.

Launch a military strike on Taiwanese territory and you will be handing the legislative elections to the DPP, as well as quite possibly the 2008 Presidential elections. Taiwanese people are cautious, but they're not cowards. Put their backs up and they will react in ways you wouldn't want.
"People are the water, the ruler is the boat; water can carry the boat, but it can also capsize it."

Taiwanese are not Cowards??!!

Mencius:

The Chinese who live on Taiwan are not cowards.  In fact they are both brave and smart, and they vote with their feet - the best of the lot, the richest and most educated, over 1 million of them, already moved to the Mainland with their familes and their life savings of over US$100 Billion.

Taking back Kinmen and Matzu will only speed up the trend.

And then again, we will all get to see what real cowards the Taidu and the "Taiwanese we are no Chinese" crowd really are.  If Taidu Bian, as their commandar in chief is any indication (note "First Son" Chen C.C.'s special dispensations in the Taiwan military - Ah Bian had to jump through multiple hoops to get his coward son a desk job - army lawyer so that Chen CC would not have to face combat, even though the guy never even went to law school, and Chen CC had to take the exam like 3 times to quality - and only after the number of "army lawyers" had to be increased from 2 to 12 to get him in), the first notice of the miltiary action, the cowards'd be hopping on planes to get out.

Chinese are brave, "Taiwanese we're no Chinese" are cowards, each and every one of them.
