A more pertinent question...

is how KMT and PFP will handle this. It is CSB's way of challenging KMT and PFP by differentiating his DPP from the oppositions. I think it is a good move from CSB's perspective. If China over-reacts with the usual huff and puff, this will drive the majority of the Taiwanese people and the USofA into CSB's open arms and CSB will have achieved his temporal objective. If China exercise dipomacy commensurate with her global political clout and economic prowess, then the scale will tip in China's favour.

I am keen to see China's reaction. In recent history, China's red-necks usually threaten with war - a losing proposition. I wonder whether China can engineer a win-win situation from this.

My opinion? This is CSB's swan song. A good one at that. The ball is in China's court now.

It shows again that Beijing's effort in using military threat to participate in Taiwan's internal politics has failed. Even when the NUC existed, the PRC fired missiles over the straight and the island before the 96 election, so what difference does it make? The PRC will continue to threaten Taiwan's way of life and the innocent compatriots simply because it can't think of a better way to deal with the DPP administration.

CSM is looking to make a name for himself.

cestmoi: are you trying to talk at me?

Taiwan has no foreign policy, ergo it has no national government, OK? Do you understand that?

Writer's real name is Lau Guan Kim.  lau_guan_kim is for commentary and analysis. He writes also under another alter ego jinseng. I will respond to good reasoned debate. Mudslingers shall be ignored. What I do not like are ignorance, stupidity, chauvinism and bigotry. The other party has as much right as I have until it resorts to insults and nuisance.
