I've found the name in the Internet.

One is from Isreal and the other is from Australia. This is a family name, not a shortened name. This name is translated into Chinese "韦津利". Let's find a reliable reference for its prounciation.

This quote is from a website I found, a transcription of a classrom conversation with a Prof. Wajnyrb:

"....kathyc says " while we're in a lull, can I ask the professor how to pronounce her name?"

....ProfWajnryb says " sure, why? do you find it hard? (joking) VINE-RIB - see, it's easy!""


I'm sure she means like the two English words "vine" (a twisty plant) and "rib", like the rib bones in your chest.
