Hi, guy! You're right. E-C or C-E dictionary is shaky sometimes. But remember: without certification, I won't post here. Look up the two words in Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary (the sixth version), and you will get it.

Homage to your conscientious learning attitude!

Mc Hog?

Ask a non-native speaker to pronounce "mic" and listen to the result. In speaking, "mike" is the pronunciation and is usually the spelling as well. I note that the Penguin Engish Dictionary (ISBN 0-140-51533) and the Concise Oxford English-Chinese Dictionary (ISBN 7-5600-3536-1) list "mike" as colloquial for "microphone" but "mic"  is not.

Again, most speakers would almost surely pronounce "mic" alone as "mc" as in McDonald's. That's why the phonetic spelling "mike" is used for "microphone".

This is my favorite forum, and I like the ways you guys try to express your opions here. :)
No "right" or "wrong" here but discussion. And we can get so many fresh expressions and ideas in English. A good forum for English learners. No any personal assaults here - that's also the web morals at the same time.

Make progress every day!
