"China hospital takes down sign banning Japanese

Wednesday, July 27, 2005 at 09:23 JST
BEIJING ?A hospital in southern China that hung up a sign last week forbidding Japanese people from entering unless they apologized for the Japanese military's wartime use of "comfort women" took the notice down after only one day, a hospital staff member said Monday.

The Hainan Eastern-Western Medicine United Hospital, located in the central district of Haikou, capital of the island province of Hainan, removed the notice from above its main gate on Thursday. The employee did not say how many Japanese people tried to enter the hospital on Wednesday and Thursday last week. She said the number of Japanese patients is "not a lot but not a few." But this is a hospital

It doesn't matter whether or not Japanese people should make more apologies. An institution that is supposed to heal people should not have been playing politics and discriminating against others. There is no justification for that. It is a shameful thing to do, and I hope the person that put up the sign/whoever authorised it is disciplined.

Japanese must apoloize and be forgiven many more times.

A program on cable TV last night showed a place called area 731 in occupied Manchuria.  There the Japanese military conducted experiments on Chinese civilians that medical science would not permit on animals today.  Some of the experiments were worthwhile, like the best way to save a frozen limb, but the pain the people suffered was not excusable.

Even in the USA, we had unethical and sometimes cruel methods of human experimentation.  The Tuskeekee experiments were especially bad.  Since it was known that Hitler had syphlyis, a progressive form of a sexual transmitted disease, 400 black men were also infected .  The idead was to track Hitler's disease based on the entire set of 400 men so that the allied command would konw when he was least able to make decisions properly.

Naxis also did extensive work with Jews and kryogenics -- freezing and thawing body parts and full bodies as well.

Most of the resaerch was controversial.  Using it created some market for it, but not using it limited the progress of science.  Must a victim die becuase the way to save him or her was developed by military doctors on prisoners of war with the hope of saving pilots and seaman?

The conclusion is that they answer is yes.  The practice of using prisoners for extreme human experimentation is so abhorrent, that you would not want such a doctor to care for you.  It causes the doctor to lose his strong moral purpose of healing the sick whomever they may be.
