He is an expert in making shoes.

or

He is an expert to make shoes.

I know the first one is correct, but is the second one definitely wrong?

"expert" could be followed by on/in/at.

shoemaking versus making shoes

The following sentence sounds better to me than Littleboat's original one:

He is an expert at shoemaking.

有个语法问题要请教!

在我看来,动名词表示的是正在进行的事情,而to结构表示的是将要发生的事情,所以他既然是专家,那他现在必然精通于某一行业,用to的话,我不知道你想表达什么样的意思???
