Some are from cuckoo land.

President  Geroge W. Bush is the commander-in-chief of the United States' armed forces. He is the man with the ultimate power and authority to declare war and to send young men and women into harm's way. He is solely responsible for this weighty dicision. He gets the credit if things go well, and the criticisms if things do not. The fact that most ' victims ' of war suffered by an army are men is simply a mathematical outcome as most (? 95% ) of the combatants are men. What has Conde got to do with the issue; Rumsfeld and Powell are men, aren't they?

More name-calling again!

Some are from cuckoo land, but they are the ones who don't know their own self-interest.

It's true that women fill many combat support positions in the USA forces in Iraq, in both notorious and noteworthy roles.  I'm not aware of female combat fighter pilots in Iraq now, but I do known some women have qualified and been trained as fighter pilots for NATO operations in the late 90's (Yugoslavia).  Women do not comprise a substantial percentage of troops serving in combat zones.  And of course there are men throughout the chain of command at the levels where Dr. Rice serves.

USA culture and Western civilization are organized around men doing the fighting.  But the assumption that women are less violent than men or less warlike is not based in objective analysis.  Boys are taught in a vast number of ways from childhood to be soldiers.  Soldiering is a mandatory service for men, but it is optional for women (http://www.sss.gov/FSwho.htm).  It's true the USA has an all-volunteer force, but someone is raising our young men to believe that they have a greater duty to fight for their country than our young women.  Now who is  benefitting from that misconception?  Shirking one's responsibility to serve one's country by having someone else do the fighting isn't a less violent act.  At best it is an act of equal violence, but against one's fellow citizen.

Even as  women have continued to make progress in many areas of Western society, the USA has become a more militaristic and a warrior nation.  More women serve in elected and appointed political position today than ever before.  More women serve in powerful positions within business and religious organizations.  While these advancements have occured, the USA has invaded a nation that did not attack it over the objections of numerous long-standing allies and the United Nations.  So it is without basis to assert that women are less warlike or less violent than men.

Men must work for justice and peace, because they pay the price in war.

catfish

Kwok,
My whole point, even if rather strange to you, is that women seem to get along better. They caress instead of strike. They are more timid and not warlike. They communicate better.
I think that China could benefit with having their women involved with their decision making.
I think that Mr. HU has to be a little bit gentler and kinder to people, because it seems to be rubbing off on his people.

Once again, Matt...

...take a quick look at the prison population in any country on the planet.  You will observe that the vast majority of violent crimes are committed by men.  Women have just as many opportunities to commit violence as men do, but they generally don't.

As Kwok Ho said, it's a testosterone thing.  Men have lots more than we, and, if not tempered by wisdom and common sense, tend to have a violent streak.

If Mrs. Laura Bush were president of the U.S., would we have invaded Iraq?

Women are from Venus.

I am bemused that we are having such a debate at all. Look around you. Chart your every encounter from waking up to sleeping for the next 24 hours. The road rager who gives you the pips, the person who barges through to get into the elevator pushing you aside, the person who eyeballs you with no apparent reasons, the person who steals your parking spot for which you have been waiting to get in because you are there first, etc. How many of these ' persons ' would you put your money on as the male of the species. I wish I am around you guys to collect the money for each wrong bet you make.It is as surely as the sun is going to rise in the East to-morrow that 90% or more of the aggros will be males!
The female of the species is the mother; the nurturing , gentle and calming one. They are the thinkers and mediators. They work from behind the scene in a unobtrusive and reconciliatory way to smoothen the way if a confrontation were in the making. They are however mentally and physically stronger and more resilient These are all established psychological and physiological facts.
Men however are stubborn and would like to preen and demonstrate their ' toughness '. Again this is the natural ritual of mate finding. The ultimate winner is still the quiet one ; the female. If you don't learn this fact now fellas, you are in for a tough tough time later on. The woman always has the last say, bless them.

Humans are from earth.

If women are less violent than men, then why do men die in wars that women encourage but do not fight in themselves?

If women are less violent than men, then why is it that, as kwok do just wrote, women always have the last word?

If women are less violent than men, then why did the USA invade a country that did not attack it?  The popular political trend of promoting women into positions of power was supposed to make the world more peaceful and reasonable.  In fact, women serve in more positions of power today than at any other time in American history (no monarchy here).

kwok do, the complaints you cite are all common gripes women have towards men:

"the road rager who gives you the pips, the person who barges through to get into the elevator pushing you aside, the person who eyeballs you with no apparent reasons, the person who steals your parking spot for which you have been waiting to get in because you are there first"

Common complaints that women have towards men do not make men more violent than women, although they do divert attention from aggressive and violent behaviors committed by women.

As for violent crime statistics, they do show that more men are incarcerated for violent crimes.  That doesn't mean women do not commit violent crime.  For example, some people consider abortion to be murder, yet there are no women in prison for murder by abortion.

As for Mrs. Laura Bush, the photo below shows President Bush after he allegedly fell after choking on a pretzel in January 2002.  Would the American public have been told the truth if this abrasian wound had been caused by Mrs. Bush throwing the President to the carpet?  Would the public have been told the truth if this abrasian wound had been caused by the Secret Service throwing the President to the pavement?

Less is not more.

matt605:   You are insisting that less is more!  " why did USA attack a country that did not attack it? " That is a very good and chilling question. The answer involves illogical, unthinking MEN; the moral crusading bible bashing neo-conservatives who think they have a mandate from God to sort the world out. That is men behaving badly. Don't blame the women. Men leaders choose to go to war, men soldiers are sent to war and men die in war; all very men business.
