Punctuation and grammar

This sentence needs a couple commas and would probably be called a sentence run-on, because it tries to pack too much into one line. English teachers often say, simplify.

Here is a version with added commas to separate the ideas.
"the irony of development, is that to the extent that it succeeds the world situation worsens, and the dangers of ecocide are increased"

Here is a version that is simplified, yet means the same things and ideas.
"the irony of development, is that when it succeeds, the world situation worsens and the danger of ecocide is increased"

"ecocide" is one subject.  When using the word "dangers" it is a plural form. Therefore it is the possibility of ecocide that could happen by successful development. The sentence structure I changed it to removes the plural.

OK, by structure, I'm assuming you mean the grammar...

The irony of develoment is that to the extent that it succeeds the world situation worsens and the dangers of ecocide are increased.

The main subject = irony

The main verb = is

"of development" is prepositional phrase modifying "irony"

"that to the extent that it succeeds the world situation worsens and the dangers of ecocide are increased" is a dependent noun clause

"to the extent that it succeeds" is modifying "development"
