World Smoke Free Day, 31 May has come and gone, but the message on the health risk of smoking to smokers and those around them,  has fallen on deaf ears!  Even worse is the message that vaping is also banned in public has gone unnoticed!  Many vapers think they have the right to vape in public, so do non smokers who think so too!  The health authorities throughout China must redouble their efforts to publicise the amended law which bans vaping in public!  Shenzhen is perhaps the only city which has taken the bold step to ban vaping in public together with smoking!  The city's non-smoking signs always have both cigarette and electronic cigarette on them, making the message very clear that both are banned!! Many other cities are still dragging their feet on bann ing vaping in public! It's time they follow the example of Shenzhen!

Now with the law firmly on their side, non-smokers should not suffer in silence; they should stand up for their rights and tell smokers nearby to stub it out!!   Unfortunately, it is the Chinese culture to not offend the culprits, preferring instead to inhale secondhand smoke rather than demanding smokers stub out their cigarettes!  The Chinese prefer to leave it to foreigners to do the talking on their behalf!
