Title: Is the US to blame for what is going on in Hong Kong? [Print this page]

Author: ceciliazhang    Time: 2019-8-15 14:44:19     Title: Is the US to blame for what is going on in Hong Kong?

By Curtis Stone

The chaos and violence in Hong Kong reached a new and troubling level on Tuesday. Radical protesters at Hong Kong’s airport seized a journalist from the Global Times, bound his hands and feet, and beat him. Images and videos of the extreme violence quickly circulated online, prompting anger in China and around the world.

These rioters have also thrown gasoline bombs at police and hurt tourists from the Chinese mainland. The shocking footage should serve as a reminder that the protests have devolved into mindless thuggery that goes against every law and regulation in any country and region.

As the protesters step up violence, it is obvious that what started as a protest against an extradition bill has become much more extreme. Other than lawful and peaceful demonstrations, the protests have gone far beyond their original intent. Chinese officials have pointed out that the situation in Hong Kong has the hallmarks of a “color revolution,” and evidence has emerged that foreign forces have interfered with the situation.

However, a question being raised is if the US is to blame for what is going on in Hong Kong.

Some Western media outlets are even claiming that China is blaming the United States and the West for the external interference to cover up internal problems.

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday said that many are blaming him and the United States for the problems going on in Hong Kong, adding that he cannot imagine why.

Well, not a single US politician has condemned the violence in Hong Kong. Rather, they have fanned the flames by sticking their noses into Hong Kong affairs.

There is no question that the United States has its hand in what is going on in Hong Kong, though to what extent is hard to measure.

Last Thursday, reports revealed a meeting between Julie Eadeh, the political unit chief for the US Consulate General in Hong Kong, and leading “Hong Kong Independence” activists. Their meeting in a hotel was captured by a Hong Kong citizen who posted the photo on social media.

The Trump administration has clearly signaled its support for protesters in Hong Kong. Officials have met with Hong Kong separatists in Washington and Hong Kong; there has been a host of public statements by US politicians and officials; and American flags have become a staple feature of the violent protests.

Two years ago, when violence broke out in Charlottesville, Virginia, US politicians condemned the violence and some called it terrorism. On the two-year anniversary, Hillary Clinton, the Democratic presidential nominee for 2016, took to social media to remind people about the dangers of violence, calling the person who drove a car into a crowd of people “a neo-Nazi.” However, hours later, in a separate tweet, Clinton called for support of the rioters in Hong Kong. It is a classic example of the double standard the United States applies to China.

Countries with rule of law have zero tolerance for violence, especially extreme violence, and acts of violence should always be condemned. There is no reason a different standard should apply to China. It is shameful that some US politicians aim to incite chaos in Hong Kong.

The 30,000-strong police force of Hong Kong is to blame.

Whether it is of political nature or otherwise, they should stop any disorder because it is their duty.

When a Chinese journalist and a traveler were beaten at the aiport, the police could not offer any help or even came close to the scene, that is very ridiculous.

Why do the local people pay so many taxes to keep the police force if they cannot be protected? Are heroes of police only in TV dramas?

Every large scale protest has "hooligans" who aim to create anarchy and violence and typically don't even share the same ideas as the majority of protestors (in this case, freedom of expression and preserving the two systems agreement).

The bad actors in every protest are typically highlighted by the government in an effort to characterize ALL of the protestors as lawless and criminals.  This is being done by China right now and was done by several southern states in the US during the MArtin Luther King protests of the 1960's.

The US supports the Hong Kong peoples rights under the "one country, two systems" framework which China agreed to in 1997.  They do not support the minority of protestors who engage in violence.

  Hmm, is that so!!!!

Would you be kind enough to explain to the forumites why "THEY" forward the funds by means of a so called "Hong Kong" bank".   To ensure seamless satisfaction towards the rioters,  a certain lady in charge of H.K. unrest (pictures are in the media)  with immunity from the local authorities did exactly the opposite?

What is it all about ?
“In early 2018, a Hong Kong resident killed his pregnant girlfriend in Taiwan, China and escaped back to Hong Kong. Since Hong Kong has no criminal jurisdiction in this case, the SAR government proposed to amend the above two ordinances to extradite the suspect to Taiwan and charge him for murder there...

“However, since the beginning of amending the two ordinances in this February, some citizens of Hong Kong had various doubts due to lack of knowledge about law and judicial systems in the mainland China. Some people and media with ulterior motives took the opportunity to spread rumours or create social panic in order to thwart the amendment of the ordinance.

“Since June, Hong Kong has witnessed several large-scale rallies against the amendments of the ordinance. The government of Hong Kong SAR suspended the amending procedure on 15th June and stopped relevant legislative work after consulting people from various walks of life in order to restore tranquillity to the society as soon as possible.”

"However, despite the suspension of the legislative work, violent protests have continued,  Since 12th June, the protests in Hong Kong have completely gone beyond the freedom of assembly, demonstration or protest.

The facts are startling and horrifying. Over the past two months, 461 people have been injured in violent conflicts, including 139 police officers. What is even more indignant... is that some violent radicals have torn up the Basic Law of the Hong Kong SAR, defamed Chinese national emblem and national flag, which seriously violated the law.

Their behaviour has openly offended the national dignity and challenged the bottom line of the ‘one country, two systems’ principle.”

Writ of the "State" has to be established with an IRON HAND.

“Some western politicians have publicly stood at the forefront and been backseat drivers, calling white black, making a lot of groundless and irresponsible remarks and allegations, and interfering with Hong Kong affairs.”

Beijing will not allow foreign interference in the matter because Hong Kong is very much a part of China. Hong Kong is China’s Hong Kong. Hong Kong affairs are China’s internal affairs. China will not tolerate the intervention of external forces.

The Chinese central government has solemnly demanded that certain countries should abide by the basic norms of international law, international relations and their own commitments not to intervene in Hong Kong affairs, and stop supporting violence and interfering in Hong Kong affairs in any form."

“The Chinese central government unswervingly safeguards national sovereignty and Hong Kong’s prosperity and stability, and resolutely stands by the government of Hong Kong SAR (Special Administrative Region) in its administration according to the laws and regulations, supports the Hong Kong police in law enforcement and the Hong Kong judiciary to punish violent criminals in accordance with the law, and appreciates the action of the patriotic citizens of Hong Kong to defend the rule of law in Hong Kong.”
