No, you are comparing an apple with an orange!  You are referring to a revolution, a matter of nati ...

Not so many people survived that revolution; mortality rates appear to be close to zero amidst the current chaos in HK.

I fail to see any logic in the rioters beating up someone just because he had worn a shirt saying he supported the police who were only doing their job to stop the public mayhem.

Are the rioters saying they can beat up anyone who holds a different view from them? If yes, what does that signify regarding their belief, if they even know what they are trying to fight for?

Rather than continue their rioting and barricades, they should stop and discuss the likelihood of how they have come to this present stage - still being influenced to inflict violence and destroy public property paid out of their parents sacrifices in order to be the shield and weapon of the foreign powers who have coaxed them to rebel.

They should ask and answer for themselves: if the foreign powers know the rioters' actions will only invite retribution and may even cause physical harm to the rioters when things get out of hand, what does that tell everyone the character and real intention of those foreign powers?

If those powers believe so much in what they have told the rioters, why don't those powers themselves come out in force and join in the rioting and destruction?

And if the rioters say it's their economic plight, how can anything they have done so far that has resulted in the diminution of their home-place's reputation and stability help in solving their economic plight?

Until the riots started, their home-place was world-renowned as a mecca of free enterprise finding its worth as the historical door to China.  So many of their parents had made it good investing in the Mainland a short drive away either by plane, car, train or hovercraft and their earnings have helped made their homeplace a thriving and prosperous part of China which in turn has enabled those youths to be fed, housed, get an education.

Those youths should concentrate on finishing their studies first so that they can acquire the critical thinking and research skills to find out for themselves the real world everywhere and how hard it is to make a living so as to be financially independent, and how easy it is to be swayed, again by those from the same mold who had once posted 'Chinese and dogs not allowed' in a public park, their own home soil.

Rioting and destroying will only make a mockery of their character, upbringing and foresight.

If they can't even manage themselves and their emotions today, how can they manage themselves in the future to play a bigger role as part of the China human capital?

Formerly a CCTV reporter in the Iraqi war zone knew well how to protect himself by wearing helmet and bullet proof vest, but now this journalist of Global Times who had been in HK violence coverage for quite some time did not realize he was in danger!

He could have taken with him a sharp knife or electric baton and taken one of the weakest of the crowd as his target.

Those are only students who have nothing to do in summer holidays, so if you could show them some blood of their own on the street, they are more scared than you.

What is the Chinese way? To turn the right cheek to receive more slappings after the left one has been swollen?

Have you ever learnt China's revolution history in classroom? What is the most famous saying of Mao?

re: "Fighting violence with violence is not the Chinese way!"

Indeed, only barbarians and cannibals use such tactic.

Simple tools hurting their pocket are much more efficient and most painful for upper or well of society.
Beijing  suspended a program that allowed individual tourists from 47 Chinese cities to travel to Taiwan.  A promising step indeed...
Now we need to do the same with tour groups, to protect Chinese tourist until the island regain it senses...
After all, it's entirely up to Formosa to receive Mainland tourist and their cash once again...

Some 4.1 million visitors from the mainland in 2015 under the Beijing-friendly administration of president Ma Ying-jeou.  By November 2018, only 2.46 million people made the trip across the Taiwan Strait.
The 60 percent decline in the number of Chinese tour groups visiting in 2017 was a significant factor in Taiwan's overall tourism revenue loss of over $2.03 billion last year.
Each Chinese tourist contribute an average of $303 per day, that loss of 1 million people in 2017 was painful.

A combined loss of individual and group tours stop them rather quickly.   An old saying: You fletch your teeth, I'll fletch mine.

I can see a happy ending rather soon,  after all uncle Sam only wants their money to keep his weapon factories humming away...
