Following US' executive order and the cutoff of several suppliers including ARF, Huawei will be faced with a difficult choice: either find a way to manufacture a smartphone without US technology or exit the smartphone business entirely. Can Huawei survive US sanctions? And how?

Huawei has a perpetual license to the ARM ISA (instruction set architecture) so it is allowed to continue designing its own chipsets based on the ARM ISA. The problem is that ARM is a 25-year old technology based on RISC (reduced instruction set computing) while Intel’s x86 architecture is based on CISC (complex instruction set architecture), both of which are inadequate for China which should come up with its own ISA based on XISC (extensible instruction set architecture). RISC does not support large data sets (which is needed for AI) while Intel’s x86 and its PC chipset architecture based on the dual Northbridge and Southbridge design is obsolete. Cybersecurity which is a big problem in today’s Internet can be solved only by designing Cybersecurity at the chipset level using Blockchain technology. So now is a good time for Huawei and other Chinese companies such as Tencent, Alibaba, Baidu, etc. to design their own CPUs based on XISC architectures which should be able to support 8/16-bit MCUs, 32-bit/64-bit RISC CPUs to 128-bit and above CISC CPUs. In the USA, RISC-V is an example of XISC architecture which started only in 2010.

This is the kind of news I have been looking for all these while. Thanks for the info. I hope all Chinese tech companies will take note.

The good news is that all the Chinese Internet companies have established their own in-house IC design teams to develop their own AI chipsets based on a multi-processor computer architecture called MPP (Massively Parallel Processing) similar to the Sunway SW26010 used in the Sunway TaihuLight Supercomputer which became the fastest supercomputer in the world. Both the ARM and Intel x86 support a multi-processor computer architecture called SMP (Symmetric Multiprocessing) which is inferior to MPP for AI. China should adopt the Sunway ISA as the basis for a National ICT Standard for CPU ISA.

Looks to me like a big jumpstart and I think that is good. But what about the equipment needed? Are they  not mostly from Europe and US? South Korea and Japan makes them but they are mostly for assembly and testing & packaging.

Business will be business. Its a question of how to compete with these sanctions imposed. One cannot and shouldn't be in business if one is afraid of the US. Chinese corporations need to be bold and transcend US.

the next step is to cut off financial supply from wall street to Chinese companies and businesses.

Brilliant, then China will offload the US treasury and plunge Uncle Sum into bankruptcy.
Believe it or not, it's true.
