(CGTN)China urges the United States to withdraw the arrest warrant for Meng Wanzhou and stop seeking extradition for her from Canada, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said at a regular press briefing on Thursday.

Meng, chief financial officer of Chinese technology giant Huawei, was arrested in Vancouver last December at the extradition request of Washington. She attended a court hearing in Vancouver on Wednesday.

"The United States and Canada are abusing a bilateral extradition treaty, and taking coercive measures without reason on a Chinese citizen," Geng said. "And, it's also a serious political event. China once again urges the U.S. to withdraw the arrest warrant and extradition of Meng Wanzhou."

He added that China also urges Canada to release Meng immediately.

Huawei said in a statement on Wednesday that the company has always been confident in the innocence of its CFO.

Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi called the case a "deliberate political move" at a press conference in March.

even not being extradited to the US she is kind of serving a jail term. not good. why she is so afra ...

Living in her own homes (She has more than one) in Vancouver. Able to move freely around the cities of the Lower Mainland (Vancouver, Burnaby, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Surrey, Delta, White Rock, and Tswassen), She can go shopping, go to movies, the Theatre, Opera, Art Galleries, restaurants, and even Bowling if she wants to. She could even smoke a doobie with her hubby at the backyard bbq, if she was so inclined. She can even go on a day hike up the Chief, in Squamish, or drive to Whistler for a picnic ... as long as she's back home by 23:00 (LOL).

Even though she is under house arrest, she lives more freely than I do in my own country!

You want to see a jail term? How about the two Canadians arbitrarily detained and accused of being spies, with absolutely no proof, I might add. Tortured daily, no access to lawyers, and the bare minimum (only 3 since they were arrested without charge) visits from Canadian Consular officials.

We have made sure that ALL of Meng Wanzhou's rights are protected, whilst our detained people in China have no rights whatsoever. You have a barbaric government, with an even more barbaric justice system. You can keep the drug dealer, though. Scum like that deserve to rot.
Stupid people are like Glowsticks. You want to snap them in half and shake the crap out of them until they see the light.
I love sarcasm. It's like punching someone in the head ... only with words

Drug dealers deserve to languid in the clink, while an innocent victim of a despicable US machination executed by its lackey doesn't...
Believe it or not, it's true.

well, if Meng is innocent as she claimed why she is so afraid of the extradition? why did not she  ...
well, if Meng is innocent as she claimed why she is so afraid of the extradition?

That is because there is no legal basis for extradition. It was a political issue, not legal issue. This has been discussed to death previously so you can go look it up.

i am sure money is not an issue, Chinese government will find the best lawyers for her defense.

Why would the Chinese government do that? Would your government do that? This is between Huawei and the crooks in the US. She is being supported by Huawei. Check your facts first instead of spouting lies. Stop your propaganda and indoctrination.
