Many thousands of construction workers and other workers in  risky jobs like window cleaners, are walking around with unsafe safety helmets on their heads, oblivious to the fact that their helmets are not protecting them!  A construction worker demonstrated this online by smashing a cheap yellow helmet with a better red one; the cheap yellow helmet broke into pieces while the more expensive red one stayed intact. The problem is that construction companies cut cost by issuing the cheap yellow ones to their workers while reserving the red ones for their senior staff, exposing their workers to risk of death and injuries.  The yellow ones cost about 8 yuan while the red ones cost 25 yuan or more!  And safety inspectors are fooled when they look at workers with yellow helmets and think all is fine, workers are complying with safety laws, until this exposure of course!  It's disgusting to know that companies have double standards to work safety, one for the laborers and another for senior staff, valuing lives differently!

Many unscrupulous businessmen have jumped onto the the band wagon selling cheap yellow unsafe helmets to workers who have to comply with work safety laws but prefer the cheaper version, for obvious reasons.  Many workers dont really value safety, they told reporters that they buy cheap ones to show the inspectors who come round, that they are complying with the law!  So, helmets are more for show than for safety!!  They are prepared to compromise their safety for the sake of saving a few yuan!  It shows that the safety concept has not gone into their heads yet, a lot more education is needed here!

Not safe at all. You see motor bike drivers using yellow helmets, but if you  come off a bike even at a slow speed, those yellow helmets will offer you zero chance of avoiding head injuries........8 rmb is that all they cost?
if you want something in life get off your backside, and do it yourself!! don't rely on others to do it for you

Safety is everyone's responsibility, not just the employer's.
Stupid people are like Glowsticks. You want to snap them in half and shake the crap out of them until they see the light.
I love sarcasm. It's like punching someone in the head ... only with words

China needs to certify their safety helmets. Similar to the US OSHA certification. That way you know your helmet will save you.

"8 rmb is that all they cost?"

Yes, that's what a reporter was offered when he went round the shops to check it out after this was exposed in social media.  Some went for 10 yuan, still very cheap compared to the red ones!
