Apparently they have pushed the ON button of the windmill of extradition, even though nothing substantive has appeared yet.  The action is not irreversible.  It is just a continuing scheme to crank up the pressure before the talks.

Politicizing commercial interests has set a very bad precedent in the Meng case.

It is not only the U.S. that can use absurd pleas to kidnap foreign executives.

China can do the same in the future if the U.S. continues to move on its present platform and extradite Meng.

The very fact that Trump said he could help if the Talks go well shows very clearly that it was a politically-motivated farce and nothing else.

The only criminals here are the U.S. president and his advisors on the case.

This sets a dangerous precedent because you can imagine based on their own illogic on the case, what will happen to Ivanka when she travels the world and exposes herself to similar dangers of being held hostage by foreign governments.

That's not an impossible scenario once Trump leaves the White House.

The anguish evidenced by the flurry of activities surrounding the announcement was not shared by the head of Huawei, who appeared on CCTV unfazed and as calm as calm should be.

So the U.S. side has now kicked the ball over to the Canada side, and only Trudeau can decide whether to go through with the extradition or not.

Trump will tell him what to do at the beginning of February after the talks.

Filing those papers in Vancouver is not the decisive step.  What the Canadians do with it is and will be.

Meng's case is not going to be treated as any other legal case.

Things can get out-of-hand quickly because the Crime Boss is playing with fire.

The contradiction will be resolved either peacefully or in some other way, but it will have to be resolved one way or another.

You can't have the cake (peace) and eat it too (war).

During the G20 meeting in Argentina, the Americans asked the Chinese side to include Fantanyl products as controlled substances, and our leader approved the request .

That means China would place Fantanyl -- which had hitherto been sold without prescription in China -- as a category of substance that could land the convicted users or traders in trouble leading to the death sentence.

But folks like this Canadian cmknight in our forum argued against the death sentence imposed on the drug pusher convicted of trafficking 222.035 kilograms of hard drugs.

So on the one hand they asked us to change our laws on the categorization of Fantanyl exported to the U.S., but at the same time wanted us to go easy on their own convicted drug lords.

It is this kind of double standards in their thinking patterns that has incurred the wrath of Chinese netizens throughout the country.

They want justice in the Meng case and that she'd be freed immediately, and if Trudeau still procrastinates, he will have to accept the consequences of his miscalculations.

This was a message to Trudeau:  China and Canada had been good partners until the Meng case happened.  Trudeau's public image suffered a major setback due to the injustice of it all:

加拿大選了個二世祖做總理,就如菲律賓以前那三世祖,祇會做美國傀儡。
