According to Sohu.com there are 26 reasons in total to explain the delays but five in particular a ...

Core cause comes down to pigging, as in too many people rushing into a cramped space.

# 1. Airlines FLIGHT operations Management

In China "Civilians" use 20% of airspace resources while the "Military" uses 80%.
China’s skies – like everywhere else in China – are overcrowded, with more than 3.3 million flights taking off in a year, and so it’s not surprising that air travel in the country is chaotic.
(Sometimes there is a military event, which closes everything down (including airspace), and there is nothing the commercial airlines can do about it).

12 hrs is a bit far mind you, And the ticket was only marginally cheaper than flying. The train was only half full as well. i think the trains need to reduce the prices if they want to attract more people. i will be flying back tmrow though
if you want something in life get off your backside, and do it yourself!! don't rely on others to do it for you

Thank you!
You are correct about Spring Airlines!
For unknown reasons, it could fly to Japan at RMB190per person for round trip!
It was less than a cab ride from outskirt of Shanghai to Shanghai Airport!
VERY STRANGE!

China’s airports if not the worst should be one of the most in the world when it comes to punctuali ...

Isn't that a very poor reflection on China's aviation industry?  CAAS should act to rectify this problem!  Going by rail is a poor alternative, to flying, which is much faster!

time clearly is not priority of these airline companies ..

  • No airline likes to operate late, [or] have to schedule excessive block times and reduce the hours flown on their fleets.

  • Weather is always volatile in China given its size and number of micro-climates, causing some flights to wait. That explains why a lot of the waiting takes place after everyone’s on the plane and even after it pulls back from the gate.

  • Another reason for last-minute delays ( And I repeat ): China’s air force controls the skies. Military planes might suddenly need a civilian flight path. Airlines never let this on to their passengers, because the military operates largely in secret.
