Yesterday President Xi asked all media to do more work to introduce Chinese traditional culture to the world!  Did he mean that we should learn hard ancient books including the Tang poems and the four famous novels then explain them to foreign friends? Where is Chinese traditional culture in the end?

On many important occasions, Chairman Xi used some ancient sayings in his speech which always going in natural way that shows he has got the spirit of our tradition value! -----------In class most students do not have real interest in poem-reciting who learn without deep comprehension! That means little if you can only repeat others‘ words while could not see their real philosophy! Just as we practice ‘Chinese martial arts’: you would gain little if you only copy each action in appearance without great personal effort!

In fact Chinese traditional culture exist everywhere! For an example: Each Chinese character has its own shape which contains too much information about our ancestors‘ wisdom! I have post some writings on this topic to which many foreign friends have shown great interest!  At the same time I notice that it is difficult to translate all Chinese characters into funny story no matter how hard I try!

Good topic.

Chinese traditional culture is found in the spirit and source of the tradition rather than the form and expression of the tradition.

For example, Confucius has taught that "family" is the basic structure of society. This can be adopted from governance to the individual family. The country is the big "family". Under this big "family" individual family forms. Under this structure, there are those in authority and those who are subjects. The leader/authority should be the epitome of virtue and should lead by example for the subjects to follow. This would create a society where the leader/authority inspires the people to do good rather than force them with legality. However, after his death, his followers have, ironically, made his teachings become legalistic with the intention of keeping true to his teachings.

In Taoism, Nature or Dao is the source of life that runs through our existence. Nothing can disturb or change its course. That is the simple teaching. However, the followers have somehow altered this by introducing divination and astrology to change the course of nature to bring "luck" to oneself.

Poems, stories, and customs form another aspect of Chinese tradition. These have also changed in the course of time. In fact, the change has been tremendous and the old ways will be gone forever for pragmatic reasons.

Chinese traditional culture consists of all the above, including the alteration and changes that have taken place in the course of time. Chinese culture is evolving. Hopefully, it will evolve to be better and for the benefit of people.
