Certainly, India will not be ready to “fight tonight” for America against China."

That's right.

And the root cause for his turnaround is that he had a long conversation with China's leader in Wuhan and came around to understand why China is a much more reliable nation.

Even if Modi calls China a foe during many previous occasions, he has gradually concluded that China as a foe is much better than America as a friend.

But as a whole India tries to curry favor from everyone in all areas -- whether military, economic or political -- thus maximizing the nation's overall return on its investments vis-a-vis China.

"America’s multifaceted belligerence and bullying cannot be ascribed entirely to Trump’s mercurial and narcissistic personality.
Current US foreign policy reflects the sum of the maximalist aspirations of the US‘ establishment’, right-wing politicians and ideologues, anti- Muslim groups and the powerful Israeli lobby.

The hubris reflected in these policies may have been understandable during America’s ‘unipolar moment’ after the Soviet Union’s collapse. But today, in a manifestly multipolar world, the endeavour to strong-arm so many nations simultaneously is surely strategic overreach and monumental folly."
