I have been told this is a ‘thing’. First time I have heard of it in 25 years of teaching Chinese students and there is nothing I can find on the internet. Is this a story on Wechat?

If you eat instant noodles during you study abroad. The hair will fall off. But at least you saved enough money to buy a Dolce Gabbana Bag !

I've hear the same from some foreigners who come to China.

I do believe that some individuals are more sensitive to subtle changes in water characteristics (for example hardness). Their body is accustomed to certain kind of water, and when it changes, and hair loss occurs. It's not about water being better or worse quality, but still slightly different.

It is typically very limited hair loss, not necessarily observable in any other way than than more than usual washing off in shower.
