United Airlines said a man wouldn’t give up his spot on an overbooked flight. According to witnesses, he was pulled screaming from his seat by security and back to the terminal at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport.

United refused to answer questions about the incident, which horrified other passengers on the Louisville-bound flight. An airline spokesman only apologized for the overbooked flight, and said police were called after a passenger “refused to leave the aircraft voluntarily.”

What do you think of the incident?

If his money had been accepted and he was allowed to board the flight then I guess they would be in breach of contract (offer and acceptance).
(mostly harmless)

That is USA, the man can sue United - but as the CEO already noted, they are reaching out to him and will probably offer a settlement worth quite a bit. Chances are he will never have to pay for United flights again, if he choose to use that company (and not like travel around the world every momth).

But American law allows them to remove people from a flight so it's not a breach of contract
