1 There is a total lack of information as to what is recyclable Glibly referring to paper does not cover the grey areas of milk cartons etc.

2. The Chinese kitchens are far too small to accommodate additional waste disposable bins.

3. In the USA they have mechanical sorting machines that can actually make a profit on recycling. Relying on unskilled householders is VERY inefficient.

Could you please explain why the Chinese cannot sort their household waste as civilised people in  ...

In the UK they force householders to sort the waste and administer heavy fines for getting it wrong. Needless to say, having acquired tons of waste that has been sorted for recycling, the material often just sits in a field because they is no market for it. Fly tipping has become popular as well since councils have decided to make life difficult in their obsession for recycling. However, in China, you can sell your recycled waste, such as newspapers and cardboard, which creates an incentive although accumulating recycled waste does create a storage problem for a householder.

Yes, the U.K. is a big sinner too; we all are, the Europeans, the Russians, the U.S. Americans.. ...
And paper recyclers often pour water over the paper and cardboard collected to make it heavier and to thus get more money.
