The news report of Yin Tao, headmaster of Chaoyang Middle School in Changzhou, who refused to choose school for his daughter, has sparked heated discussions online. In spite of academic excellence, she entered Chaoyang Middle School where a majority of students are from migrant families.

It is common in China that parents are making all the efforts including using connections, giving bribes, and buying school district houses to send their children the best possible school. It comes as no surprise to me as parents would want to give what is best for their kids and the distribution of educational resources are uneven in China. Even in big cities like Beijing, there is an imbalance between different districts. Would you choose school for your children?

Denial, according the psychoanalysts, is one of the most primary mechanisms of defense. It consists in the attitude of denying or minimizing obvious facts of reality with which the individual can´t  cope or whose irresponsibility is unable to meet.
