Shatter US Allies confidence is a very very important step.

My take:
The reason [they] "continue to belittle China's nuke capability", by my account, is because "they don't know for a fact what are China's true stockpile" and hence using the "belittling technique" to trick/force the Chinese into spelling the beans so to speak.
My guesstimate is that it would be a safe bet to place China's nukes somewhere in between what are Russia's [current stockpile] and of course what are America's [current Stockpile]. This should give China something like 5000 nukes max or 1/2 that number considering the nuke downsizing treaties worked out between the US and Russia.

Logic: given the nuke threat posted China by the USSR in the 60's 70's and 80's and America's ever unending threat to use nukes on China ever since McArthurs days, China would be stup*d to not learn from those lessons.

There are some Chinese military officers and academics who are starting to brag about China’s nuclear war-fighting capabilities. While China has a reasonably secure second-strike capability, it’s one of the most vulnerable large powers to all-out nuclear war because of its population density and its distribution along the eastern seaboard. Just because China has a population 1.4 billion people doesn’t mean that it would survive a massive nuclear attack. That’s a strong argument, in my view, for the U.S. to keep a large nuclear attack force, both operational and in active reserve, of several thousand strategic warheads.

Educated take by Geirge Washington U:
"Chinese arsenald is somewhere in the neighbourhood of 3,500 warheads."

You can refuse to accept this account of what a prominent university in the US have given or you can bury your head in the sand and buy into what you've systematically been indoctrinated into believing.

Logic tells the story however: 250 warheads wouldn't even make the Americans, or the Russians blink. So is the Chynese is really as  stooo-pit as you think?

C'mon!! Use your brains. Or do you have one?
