On the evening of April 4, 2016, Zhang Junguang and his 4-year-old son Zhang Jiabo watched the flag lowering ceremony at Tiananmen Square in Beijing. At that moment nobody knew that the father and his son had skated for 14 days.
At around 8 a.m. on March 22, Zhang Junguang and his son set out from Puyang, a city in central China’s Henan Province. They skated along the National Highway 106, heading towards Beijing.
They skated 30 kilometers a day. Zhang took pictures of his son with the guideboard every time when they arrived at a new terminus. Zhang is very proud of his son for taking this adventurous trip. The son did cry but never really gave up. After they arrived in Beijing, Zhang and his son stayed for another 8 days and visited all the famous sites as a reward for his son’s persistence.
The 39-year-old father Zhang Junguang is a truck driver, who has been skating for 20 years. And his son learned to skate at the age of two. Zhang thinks a special way of travelling like this will definitely leave his son a precious memory in his life, and in the meantime, a hard trip like this also helps to build his son’s willpower.
Some netizens think the experience is great for the child’s future growth; some, however, think it is hazardous to take a child to the highway and skating for such a long distance.
