The first prize of Peiwen Prize of BeijingUniversity is suspected to be a copy. It is a great contest and has a greatinfluence among students in universities of China. It has already been focusedby media and many students in China. People raised two questions. Why did thestudent do it? How could a copy one pass a strict check?

Actually, copying others’ works inuniversity is quite a common thing in China to finish their assignments orpapers. They can finish their tasks without thinking in this way. Looking atthe reasons behind, you’ll see that those who try to copy others’ works arelack of honesty and are not qualified enough to take their majors.

Firstly, dishonesty is spreading not only in an exercise now but in thework of their future, which might terribly ruin their lives. In China fromprimary school to university, quite few schools give exams without monitoring. In other words, when there is an opportunity to cheat some of the students willdo it. We are taught to be honest since we get schooling, but many of thestudents cheat in the exams, even in this big contest of writing. What does itimply? Our education is not successful. Dishonesty like a disease can infect. Those who successfully do it once, they want another one. Besides, this badbehavior will bring bad effect on others, even to the community.

Secondly, as a student, you should finish the tasks your teachersassign. It is your job. Try your best to learn. No one will be blamed when hedoes his best. When you are busy, tell your teacher that you might have adelay. If you cannot complete a simple task yourself, how can you do a furtherstudy in your major? How can we expect you will have a great achievement in thefuture?

Do you have any ideas about it?

this is what ALL the FT's I know have been saying for years.
Cheating and plagiarism is endemic and as a result any Chinese academic achievement is rightly treated with suspicion.

Chinese degrees are seen as valueless in many countries because of the acceptance of cheating.
China has no right to complain when people point this out as the system does nothing to eliminate cheats.

The government should be blamed before lots of cheating can be stopped in schools and universities. Effective measures should be taken.

The teachers and schools are also at fault for continually facilitating the cheating - they are the ones on the ground who can make a change
The students are at fault for cheating.
The parents are at fault for condoning cheating and not encouraging honesty.

It says a lot about a parent if a child thinks cheating is ok.
Where else do they learn their values if not from the home?

who can forget the cry of the parents in in Zhongxiang, Hubei Province during the 2013 Gaokao?
"We want fairness. There is no fairness if you do not let us cheat."

I have been threatend by staff when I tried to remove mobile phones and other electronic equipment from students in exam rooms, and the staff have changed grades of students to marks they did not merit.
A foreign colleage had his exam paper distributed to his students - by staff members - prior to exams taking place.
Staff are often complicit in cheating so it is not only the governments responsibilty.

To get away with cheating is regarded as clever in China. Until this attitude changes, cheating will continue.
Students are under enormous pressure to succeed and this encourages cheating. I see this every day when I organize English games as part of English lessons. Many students will cheat to be the winners, which destroys the game for everyone.
English teacher and education adviser. China needs a teaching profession with less fear and more trust and honesty.

Ironically, the principal of one of the schools I taught at in China was ( and probably still is ), overzealous in their attempts to catch cheaters, yet they continually changed students' marks without the teachers' knowledge . Students knew this was happening so how could they possibly think that cheating on tests and assignments were unacceptable ?
