Again, this is a very modernist approach putting economy above everything else. For many HK people maybe the economy is less important than their rights, it is a mindset, a perspective many mainlanders fail to understand.

Unfortunately, it is not true.

For many HK people maybe the economy is less important than their rights, it is a mindset, a perspective many mainlanders fail to understand.

I grew up in Shanghai since I was 9, I know the mindset.

If Chinese from Hong Kong in USA don't even care voting, what make people in Hong Kong care politics more?

Before 1997, HK had been deeply influenced by western culture. Now when Chinese government governs HK in a new way, many people are not used to it. I think it has a big gap in culture between the west and China.

Maybe China should treat Hong Kong like the British did over a hundred years ago.
The British took Hong Kong by military force, gutted the government and installed their own.
Those who resisted were dealt with in the harshest possible manner.

This is the British idea of culture.

If capitalism promotes innovation and creativity then why aren't scientists and artists the richest people in a capitalist nation?
