A new study has spotted an explosion of fat children in rural China. Researchers are blaming the Western-style diet high in sugar and carbohydrates as the main culprit to the problem. How serious is the problem and what should we do to stop the trend?

What about all the Chinese food that has sodium, saturated fat in it? a plate of stir fry greens has 900 calories in it, and 2200 mg of sodium . Eggplant has 1000 calories and 2000 mg of sodium. 6 dumplings has 500 calories in.  Researchers should wind their necks in.......Parents are to blame what food their children eat...
if you want something in life get off your backside, and do it yourself!! don't rely on others to do it for you

What is ridiculous is the outright stereotyping of what, exactly, constitutes "junk food". Is pizza junk food? No, it isn't. It contains all of the food groups, and is actually quite healthy. It becomes junk food, when you eat it all of the time. The same with hamburgers. You have meat (unfortunately, often-times processed), grains (the bun) vegetables (tomato, lettuce, onion), and dairy (cheese). It becomes junk food when you eat it all the time, instead of once per week. How about potato chips. If you are eating three or four bags, every day, then yes ... it becomes junk food. One bag per week? It's not junk food.

Every food has the potential to become junk food if you eat too much of it. A bottle of Coke once a week is not junk food. A 2-litre bottle of Coke every single day, is very unhealthy.

Healthy-eating education and exercise, not prohibition, is what works. If you have a PE class, participate. Don't be sitting under a tree with your friends, gossiping while you are pretending to study.
Stupid people are like Glowsticks. You want to snap them in half and shake the crap out of them until they see the light.
I love sarcasm. It's like punching someone in the head ... only with words

Who is responsible for all the decisions made in a child's life?
Family - mostly parents and grandparents.
They decide and are responsible for what a child eats and drinks.
They decide and are responsible for how often a child exercises.

No one is forcing them to feed their children unhealthy food.

Researchers should blame the parents for not educating themselves on healthy diet and exercise.
It is not as if the information is not online for all to find out.

Parents, your child is a reflection of your choices.

The Chinese parenting philosophy also has a lot to answer for with obese children
