A MAN has been detained on suspicion of bludgeoning two children to death and injuring four others in an apparent act of revenge against his neighbors.

Xinhua news agency cited Beijing police as saying yesterday that the suspect was apprehended in the nation’s capital on Sunday afternoon, though the deadly incident occurred in Pizhou, a city in east China’s Jiangsu Province. According to the public security department in Jiangsu, the suspect lured a group of six children into his home and then attacked them with a “blunt object.” Two of the children were killed and the other four were injured, it said, without elaborating. Police were quoted as saying that the man had earlier had an altercation with his neighbors and appeared to have exacted revenge by attacking the children. The report did not say whether the youngsters were related to one another, or to the suspects’s neighbors. It said only that a police investigation has been started.
