America tends to have a 'shoot first, ask questions later' mentality, and they tend to be very suspicious, presuming evil intent - whether there is any or not.
Also, there is a prevalent 'them vs. us mentality', meaning that there will always be opposition in America's mind - and not the good kind, either.
The journey IS the destination!

In a way this is good news for China.
Most so-called innovations and inventions in the west were made first for military weapons.
This is China's chance to become #1 in the world by concentrating on new military technology.

Reagan, one of the US military's favorite puppet presidents, wanted a type of "Star Wars Shield".
The technology for this didn't exist at the time and the unimaginative eggheads were going about
it all wrong. Another folly of that time was restoring an ancient battleship, the USS Missouri, so it
could go to the middle east and blow a few 410mm shells into Iraq.

China should take advantage of their new success in manufacturing and their strong workforce to further
their defense since it seems all but certain the west has China directly in their sights.

Is it lots of inexpensive weapons or a few extremely precise high tech weapons?
It's a combination of both. China should use this time to figure out the balance and develop
it's high tech weapons while stockpiling low tech weapons such as ocean mines and long range
ballistic missiles.

The result of all this will be a more secure China for the Chinese people and lots of new widgets
for the general public in China to enjoy and export.
If capitalism promotes innovation and creativity then why aren't scientists and artists the richest people in a capitalist nation?

It's called "Orientalism" of the Anglo-American kind which attempts to fetishize an imaginary Orient out of East Asian Civilization. In this racist worldview, the Anglo-American sees himself as the white savior of the heathen Orient whose mission is to Christianize and Democratize East Asians into becoming the yellow versions of stupid gringos in the Far East. You see this line of thinking clearly in Revolutionar's posts which presumes the a priori necessity of heathen Orientals to be "Americanized" into the Christian and Democratic ways of white Anglo-American Protestant Civilization.

What the China Lobby led by the Soong family did was to parlay this Anglo-American Orientalist fantasy -- of a Republican China that could be molded into an Oriental version of the U.S.A. -- into supporting the gangster-capitalists who took over the KMT after the death of Sun Yat Sen's death in 1925. Chiang Kai-shek, who never liked the Anglo-Americans, played this role to appease his U.S.-educated wife whose family and cronies made immense fortunes from racketeering, opium-trade, smuggling, Bible-selling, etc. Even the "foreign aid" given by the Anglo-Americans mostly went into the pockets of the gangster-capitalists running the KMT.
