I think being innovative is really not in our chinese arena, esp if to compare with the west. Being compliant is probably more valued than taking risk in our culture.  Language is the carrier of culture and its evolution reflects the culture's characteristics. Many Chinese characters have remained more or less the same for >2000 yrs and an average chinese could easily recite some old sayings dated back thousands of yrs yet still of great worth today. for example, 行不更名,坐不改姓 is considered a way to honour ones belief in integrity. Chinese probably have more respect for 根本稳固than枝叶繁茂.

Btw, the impression I gather from the list of star participants is that most active  posters on cd-bbs are non-Chinese. Pls also refer to klyer's " a typical day on chinadailyBBS":
