re: one two punch

It refers to the sport of boxing, where one player strikes the other player- first with his right fist, then immediately, his left fist.  Occasionally, this results in the final blow- the hit that results in a knock-out.

Sometimes this is used as an idiom.  "Give him the old "one-two."

Or "one two punch" can simply refer to 2 things that happen in quick succession.  (Such as: an earthquake and tidal wave struck the city.  It was a one two punch.)

It is from boxing, but...

The deeper meaning is slightly different than the meaning given above.

The purpose of the "one two" is for the first hit to be a distraction, while the "real" punch comes in at number two, from the opposite side.

This phrase is often used (like many sporting terms) in the business world, where it usually refers to a combination of different styles of action to achieve the goal. Example:

"Let's give them the old one-two; you do the presentation on features, and they'll be so dazzled that they won't take much notice of my presentation on costs."
