You can try

I think the US is going to fill in some reefs in the South China Sea and extend their Nine-dash line.

Of course the US has calculated China's options before embarking on this.

China should be in no hurry to respond, China's hawks in particular. Each and every Asean member quietly cheered the US with some hoping for a China-US clash to cancel each other out leaving extremists to power up and conquer East Asia.

It has been said many times that China needs to sharpen its trading skills in order to sit down as an equal on the same poker table with the US. Both China and US know one thing, the other is not the enemy but one must have significant sway over the other. Hence China, its hawks included should sharpen its trade options so much so that they not only outnumber that of US' but are also qualitatively superior and yet is not inaccessible to the US.

There is no question that China's trade options when it comes to economic matters globally speaking are sufficient to counterweight that of US. The same however cannot be said in terms of security, medical, education and natural resources. Of the five, US is still far more superior in four. Just take security for debate. US is well entrenched in many countries politically and militarily. Its so called allies are actually not allies but subservient countries, something China doesn't have. The way US places its military and access another nation's military is also something China is behind at. China has many projects with its neighbors but little do they win China any strong unwavering support. Projects like Mekong Security could not garner strong unshakeable China-Indochina relationships. In North East Asia, there are so many torns with the Koreans and Japanese. Needless to mention onerous challenges to the India-China ties remains. There are more surrounding nations with guns pointed at China than there are at the US. Even the Taiwan response to US' incursion speaks a lot about Taiwan's kinship - so hopeless that they are write-offs. All in, China is in no position to out-trade US' incursion manoeuvre. Whatever China's response, it needs to take into account global publicity and do not think its shameful to have slipped a little rather China needs a solution that can reverse China's loss of fortune without aping after the US.

Interesting take on the situation, but it's the most reasonably one I've read on this thread.

Being out-played is an avoidable eventual result that either China or US has to shoulder. Assuming that China is willing to concede with US willing to uphold China's image with great dignity, the outcome is not necessary bad. China is not defeated here. That'll be a result much better than that of past superpowers England, USSR, Germany and Japan all put together.

Surely China can negotiate for recognition of its existing system or things that it wants to maintain as well as reconciling with Taiwan given that Japan could ask to retain its monarchy lineage that has committed grave human atrocities. Ending unproductive competition for both who do not see other as "the enemy" is actually in both their interests and could perhaps usher in a better relationship between them eventually.
