The Washington Post ran a commentary by its China bureau chief Simon Denyer, which accused Britain, as its headline suggested, of "bending over backward to prove its friendship to China."

The article criticized the British government as having been "working overtime to ingratiate itself with Beijing" and for "complete kowtowing to the Chinese dictatorship." The article also mocked British Chancellor George Osborne for envisioning a "golden relationship" between China and the UK.

The British newspaper The Times also ran an article blasting China's "despotism," and demanded that the British government should raise the human rights issue when Chinese President Xi Jinping visits Britain next week.

Then why the sour grape mentality is displayed in most of the Western media? Why couldn't Chinese leader get the highest level treatment, the royal pomp and pageantry, since the Sino-UK cooperation is believed to benefit the countries and their peoples as well? The media has to keep up with the times.

Is his treatment not at the top level? Staying in Buck House, dining with the Queen, gun salutes, the works.

What you are saying is that you do not like the fact that the press in the Uk can speak its mind at a time like this, there is plenty of good press out there for the visit, why do you only pick up on select bits?

Indeed "the media should keep up with the times" and merely be the mouthpiece of government propaganda. That would a rather unique example of western media copying China.

Fortunately it's all bulldust.

The Yanks don't want us to leave the EU either.  Even if it would benefit us economically, they view a strong EU as a buffer against Putin and Russia.
