China and Japan, two great countries in East Asia have no doubt contributed immensely in making the world a bettter place.  Despite their proximity to each other, realations between these pacific powers has been tantamount to that of a seesaw swinging up and down. The memories and horrors of the Nanking massacre and WW2  has no doubt left a deep scar lingering not just in the hearts and minds of the good people of China and Japan but of the world as a whole.
We all share a common destiny as a race to work together in harmony in spite of our differences and the Chinese and Japanese have done just that. Trade between China and Japan continues to grow steadily making them the top two-way trading partners. The recent speech by President Xi Jinping to a Japanese delegation on supporting an exchange program between the two countries in Beijing conveys a postive message to all who hope to see relations between the two countries get better.
Recent tensions at the South China Sea poses a great danger not just to stability in Asia but to the whole world. We hope the issue can be resolved once and for all for the betterment of all. For earth is our home and it is imperative that we make it not just a better place for us but for generations yet unborn.
To sum up, I think the Sino-Japanese relation is a rather interesting one but I hope it gets much stronger as the days go by.

We had enough confrontations in the past. Nobody wants a Third World War, nobody ! Viable solutions  ...

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER . . . HERE IS HOW THE PHILIPPINES CAN BE A LEADER INSTEAD OF A BLIND FOLLOWER.

STEP 1.  Do an internal soul-searching and come to a national consensus that the so-called claims of sovereignty by the Philippines are circumstantial at best, if not spurious from the start (such as the Mr. Tomas' claim of "discovering" islands in the Spratly group that belonged to China, was forcibly occupied by the Japanese in 1939, and returned to China by Japan no less, in 1945, as part of its terms of surrender - Mr. Tomas actually had visited Itu Aba island where the then sole government of China, the Republic of China, had planted a Chinese flag in 1946 in the aftermath of the Japanese surrender, so that his claim of "discovering" the Spratly islands is not based on ignorance, but was an intentional fabrication, and can be categorized literally as a FALSE FLAG OPERATION, to bring the Philippines into conflict with China over islands he knew belonged to China all along, but which his Western sponsors want to take away from China, using the Mutual Defense Treaty of the Philippines to secure by force of arms - exactly how it has created the fiction of a Japanese jurisdiction over Diaoyudao, included it in their Mutual Defense Treaty and now threaten China with a nuclear holocaust, implied by its commitment to the defense of the Japanese trespassers on Chinese territory).  The Filipino people must know the truth, or else it will always appear to them that their leaders were "betraying them" by accepting China's de facto jurisdiction while rejecting its de jure sovereignty.  China does not play these kinds of games.  Once the Filipino people understand that they were victims of a strategic deception, promising them sovereignty over islands that first belonged to the Republic of China (in Taiwan), and now belongs the People's Republic of China, that have no basis in FACT, the stage for peace, reconciliation, and sharing of natural resources is set.  True peace, not a pact with the military of the Philippines, to control your civilian government, and threaten every future administration with coup d'etat if it does not follow the orders from China, as is currently being shaped under your present highly naive, though perhaps innocent, President, to serve once again as the proxy and pawn of a foreign power.  Leading with TRUTH is not weakness.  It shows true strength and intelligence.  You MUST know the TRUTH, in order for the TRUTH to set you FREE.  This phase of national awakening, including your understanding of how your First Philippine Republic was brutally suppressed, when you were already an INDEPENDENT DEMOCRATIC COUNTRY, in 1899, when the Treaty of Paris was ratified undemocratically without the consent of the Fillipino people, can be achieved through your non-governmental media.  You have no idea how closely linked the Filipino revolution was to the Chinese revolution led by Sun Yatsen.  Nada.  Just before Aguinaldo's betrayal and capture, through the diplomatic skills of Mariano Ponce, the Chinese revolutionaries led by Sun Yatsen, sourced out a whole shipload of Japanese arms and ammunitions to be sent to the Philippines, but which was never delivered due to Aguinaldo's capture and the collapse of the republic.  Ponce then gave the whole shipload of arms to Sun Yatsen, which powered in turn the Chinese revolution to its final victory.  Your loss was our gain.

STEP 2.  If your intentions are purely those of peace, instead of a ruse to unite all the puppets in a grand alliance of bargaining with China, that could then be turned into a grand military alliance of aggression against the sovereign territories of China, then use your ambassador to China to propose to the Chinese MOFA, a joint one-on-one discussion about how to share the resources of the Spratly Islands, even if the Philippines should shelve its claim of sovereignty, as it is clearly spurious to anyone who can read the historical record for himself.

STEP 3.  The final agreement between the Philippines and China will have to agree that sharing of resources is not admission of sharing of sovereignty or of only partial sovereignty over the territory involved.  These islands clearly belongs to China by international treaty, i.e., the Instrument of Surrender of Japan, fully confirmed by the fact that the ROC had planted a Chinese flag on Itu Aba in the Spratly Islands in 1946, long before Mr. Tomas "discovered" it and illegally pulled out the Chinese flag.  It is the Philippines who wants to share in China's resources in the Spratly Islands.  It should be happy that China is willing to oblige out of good neighborliness.  It has NO RIGHT TO DEMAND THAT WHAT IS SHARED BELONGS TO IT BY RIGHT OF SOVEREIGNTY.

HERE IS A WIKIPEDIA EXCERPT ON THE PHILIPPINE'S CLAIM TO THE SPRATLY ISLANDS THAT IN ACTUALITY, CONTRARY TO THE WESTERN MEDIA PORTRAYAL, DO NOT INCLUDE ANY SOVEREIGN RIGHTS AT ALL, AND WHICH THE PHILIPPINE GOVERNMENT SHOULD ACCEPT AS BASIS FOR ITS REPRESENTATION WITH CHINA REGARDING OVERLAPPING EEZ'S OF CHINA'S SOVEREIGN TERRITORIES IN THE SPRATLY ISLANDS WITH THE PHILIPPINES'S EEZ OFF THE COAST OF PALAWAN.

THE CURRENT MEDIA FRENZY IN THE WEST AND IN THE PHILIPPINES ABOUT THE "SOLID" CLAIMS OF SOVEREIGNTY OF THE PHILIPPINES ARE A CONVENIENT FICTION TO DENY CHINA ITS RIGHT OF SOVEREIGNTY BY SIMPLY MAKING A BASELESS COUNTERCLAIM TO IT.

HERE IS THE WIKIPEDIA EXCERPT ON MR. CLOMA:

"On May 11, 1956, Tomas Cloma Sr. together with 40 men, took formal possession of the islands, lying some 380 miles (612 km) west of the southern end of Palawan and named them Freedomland. Four days later, on May 15, 1956, Cloma issued and posted copies of his "Notice to the Whole World" on each of the islands as a manifestation of unwavering claims over the territory. On May 31, 1956, Cloma declared the establishment of the Free Territory of Freedomland, ten days later he sent his second representation to the Secretary of Foreign Affairs informing the latter that the territory claimed was named Freedomland. On July 6, 1956, Cloma declared to the whole world his claim and establishment of a separate government with its capital on Flat Island (also known as Patag Island). Cloma introduced a distinction between his Freedomland and the Spratlys further west. This distinction later became part of the Philippines' foreign policy. This distinction was never fully clarified. It seems that Freedomland encompasses most of what others call the Spratly Islands, but not Spratly Island itself, nor the banks and reefs lying to the west of it.[5]

Cloma's declaration was met with hostile reactions from several neighboring countries, especially the Republic of China, or Taiwan. On September 24, 1956 the ROC reoccupied nearby Itu Aba Island (also known as Taiping Island), which it had abandoned in 1950, and intercepted Cloma’s men and vessels found within its immediate waters. The People's Republic of China, or Mainland China, also restated its own claim.[5]

In the 1972 Cloma was jailed by Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos for four months for "impersonating a military officer by being called an ‘admiral’".[1] In August 1974 Cloma changed the name of the country from Freedomland to Colonia. At that same time he retired as Head of State in favour of John de Mariveles. Later that year, in December 1974, Cloma was arrested and forced to sign a document to convey to the Philippines whatever rights he might have had in the territory for one peso.[6] There are Philippine claims that they acquired the territory through that document. However the fact is that from August 1974, Cloma no longer had any territorial or sovereign rights to convey.[7]

In 2014 The Philippines sought adjudication of territorial dispute with China at the International Court of Arbitration.[8] In its pleadings, the Philippines abandoned efforts to assert succession to the Cloma Claim, and instead asserted a 200-mile territorial claim under EEZ Law of the Sea. As a consequence, Colonia became the only successor claimant to the Cloma territory.[9]"

Note that 380 miles equals 330 nautical miles, while EEZ can only be claimed up to 200 nautical miles, such that even the Philippine claim of the Spratly Islands being within its EEZ cannot be arithmetically correct.  Someone must have forgotten how to convert miles into nautical miles, or that EEZ's do not extend more than 200 nautical miles from the coast.  At any rate, China is willing to discuss with the Philippines proposals about sharing some of the resources of the Spratly Islands with nearby neighbors, simply as a matter of good neighborliness.  The Philippines should stop relying on Western media for the truth, such as the Canned News Network, Washy Post, or NY Trash, because it already has the facts in its hands.  Just look at them, and decide.  Is there any basis for claiming Chinese islands outside its EEZ even, let alone outside its sovereign territory, as something it owns?  Let's face it, the Philippines has no dog in this fight, but can still get a lot of favors from China by simply acknowledging China's incontrovertible claim of sovereignty over what all along has been Chinese-owned islands.  Getting something for nothing is not a loss, not a humiliation, but a victory all around, so why reject an easy victory for a likely defeat with nothing to show for it?

ABRAMICUS,

Getting to a mutual understanding requires both sides to reconsider their position, not just one side.

YOU WANT IT ALL ! YOU are NOT READY TO REACH OUT HALF WAY.

Besides that it is about Japan. My suggestion can be applied to both, Japan and the South China Sea.

SORRY, but I call you a Beton-Head, stubborn, blind, trigger happy, static, narrow minded.
