Dear forumites,
We will see the 70th anniversary of anti-Facist war soon. So we'd like to invite the submissions on Sino-Japanese relations, both contemporary and historical, from any discipline. Submissions should be approximately 200 words.

If you happen to be a Japanese or acquainted with Japanese people, you can write how you or most Japanese people you know, preferably the younger generation born after the war, see the WWII today and how do you think of the two peoples' attitude towards the war and each other?  Will China and Japan could follow their counterparts, France and Germany in EU?

Any ideas about this topic are welcome and  You can write below this thread or Send your articles to readers@chinadaily.com.cn.

Thank you.

Do you think that the choice of the picture in the OP is a good one? Do you not think it will attract comments only about WW2 and not about the present?

My Shanghai appartment block has many Japanese families living there and many local Shanghai people refuseto live these amongt the Japanese, do you not think that if Chinese and Japanese people can live together in harmony it will help their respective governments to talk to each other and to promote harmony in the future?

China needs to learn how to "win the hearts and minds" of their neighbors (not just Japan).
It could have been all so easy, why seeking this confrontation in the first place.
Why not showing real leadership and offering a "peace-plan" for the so-called South-China-Sea ?

- de-militarize the whole sea
- put aside sovereignty claims
- or even transfer sovereignty to a common Administration of all claimant states
- mutual responsibility for the sea, exploitation, preservation of environment

It would have been such a clever idea presented by China, which would have kept the USA
completely out of the game, which would have gained respect for China. This could have been
also the foundation of Sino-Japanese relations. Co-operation instead of confrontation.

But would a different picture not be more appropriate?

It is not yet to late, China. Taiwan made such a proposal, which I consider the most significant, and the most ignored idea.
Soft Power instead of Hard Power. China, you have missed a huge opportunity. Real power is not in the muscles but in the brain.

We had enough confrontations in the past. Nobody wants a Third World War, nobody ! Viable solutions are out there. It just needs the political will to proceed with it. It would not be a sign of weakness, it would be a sign of strength and wise leadership.
Of course, a developement like in Europe between Germany, France and Poland, is also possible in Asia. It needs politicians with a heart and brain at the right place, nothing more !

The convincing of the masses will be done through the state-owned media. They are professionals in this field, why not broadcasting a message of peace for a change.
