Actually not true, or t least not true everywhere.  It's a gross misrepresentation to say parents don't support their kids after 18 - they encourage their young adult children to be more independent and self-sufficient, but if they run into trouble Mum and Dad will always help.  Equally, when parents are getting older, in most families I know, their children make many sacrifices to support them and take care of them.
