I used ESL Across China: http://www.esljob.cn/Company.asp?id=1382
Didn't cost me anything. Hubert Reid and his staff are very hardworking and professional.
Another good choice is: http://eslcafe.com
There, hopefuls can post their resume or seek jobs anywhere teachers are needed. There are also great resources for teachers or anyone new to the working abroad game.
I wish you friend great luck Spidey.

In China...its surprisingly easy...
But its shocking the amount of people who wind up teaching ...
"All they care about is making money, no quality control whatsoever."
Unfortunately, English teaching in China is a business, not a profession! And many schools are run by Chinese businessmen who can't speak two words of English themselves; they employ white tourists without work permits or foreign expert certificates. They know they can recruit lots of Chinese students by simply putting a white face in class! What a shame!

Unfortunately, he is now white , or that white as far as I know.
In that case he might have to compete with the whites who have a natural advantage because of their natural skin color! But don't dismay, if schools can't find a white, they don't mind a black, and if they can't find a black, they don't mind a brown, because they all look 'foreign', unlike the yellow, who look local and are always passed over! If your friend is an overseas Chinese, tell him to forget about applying for a teaching job in China, he stands no chance!
